When you’re a paper lover who also dabbles in ink, it’s destined for the two worlds to collide, right? For as long as I can remember, I would ooh and aah over paper textures and pretty pens in the store. Now, as a mom of eight and grandmother of nine, I still enjoy quiet moments with pen and paper. These festive snowflakes were a joy to make, and it’s always my hope to spread joy during the holiday season.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock paper:
- Craft Supplies:
- Paper Trimmer
- Cutting Machine + circle shape (I'm using a Cricut)
- Calligraphy pen with vintage nib and Dr. Ph Martin's Bleed Proof White Ink
- Adhesive gems
- Ranger Glossy Accents
- Silver Liquid Pearls
- Gelly Roll Stardust pen
For this project, I added two circles to Cricut Design Space, then sized them to 3 inches. I cut two circles from each color of Stardream cardstock. Did I mention that the Stardream Collection features gorgeous shimmering paper? I also used a 6x9 sheet for the snowflake with a Merry Christmas sentiment.
If you do not have a die cutting machine, you can trace circles and cut them by hand. A drinking glass should be just the right size!

Using a pointed nib and Dr. Ph Martin's white ink, I designed each snowflake using different flourishes. Once the ink was dry, I embellished some of them with the Gelly Roll pen, Liquid Pearls, Glossy Accents, or adhesive rhinestone gems as I desired. This is the fun part because there are no rules, just follow your intuition!

I must say that it’s always a calligrapher’s dream to find the perfect cardstock that takes ink well and doesn’t tear, buckle, or cause the nib to catch in fibers. Using Stardream was truly a dream as it passed all those tests with flying colors! I love how you can see how the light reflects off the paper in the images below.

A few of my favorite calligraphers that I learned pointed pen snowflakes from are Younghae Chung (Logos Calligraphy), Heather Victoria Held, and Julia Razz. They have tutorials on YouTube demonstrating how to flourish and embellish delicate snowflakes with a pointed pen.

These snowflakes are the perfect way to spread extra joy inside the holiday cards you send to loved ones this year. They would also be great to elevate your gift boxes as tags, or even used as ornaments.
