🌿Print Product Templates
DIY designing? Right click and save these templates to your computer. Add the template to your design file to provide visual safe zone, trim line and bleed margins. Hide or delete the template before saving your pdf.
🌿Font Size & Weights
FONT SIZES & WEIGHTS
- Be careful using fonts that are too small. Anything smaller than 8 pt. may be difficult to read.
- What is true about small fonts is also true of fonts, strokes and lines that are very thin or light.
- Small, thin and light fonts may look perfectly fine on your computer screen, but may not be the outcome you are looking for when printed. This is especially true if the ink color is lighter or the paper color is darker.
🌿Fonts & Strokes
FONTS & STROKES
- Outline custom fonts and strokes to prevent font substitution.
- We recommend outlining if fonts need to appear exactly as designed. Some fonts will not transfer correctly, even if they are embedded.
- IMPORTANT: Be sure to save your original file with Live Fonts separate and apart from the version (copy) you outlined for printing. If you save over your original document with the outlined version, you will no longer be able to edit the text layers.
- Use the copy with outlining to create your PDF file.
🌿CMYK Color Mode
COLOR: CMYK Required
- Must be in CMYK color mode
- Rich Black is recommended for solid black areas and wider fonts to prevent dullness
- CMYK for rich black example: C:60, M:40, Y:40, K:100
- 100% Black is recommended for black text that is thin and/or small to prevent offsetting
- CMYK for 100% black is C:0, M:0, Y:0, K:100

Printing on Colored Paper: Please see White Ink Printing below to learn about white under under CMYK when printing colors on colored paper.
Color Flooding: Print designs that lay down a full color background or cover large areas with ink is known as color flooding. Color flooding on a digital press will cause the surface to take on a sheen rather than dull finish, even on matte paper. This is important to note depending on the look you wish to achieve.
If the desired result is a matte finish, we recommend choosing a solid-core cardstock and layering your color elements over a white underlay. This results in a card that is double-sided and solid core, with no white edges, and the background results from the paper color, not a layer of ink. See Designing with White Ink for details on setting up your file.
🌿White Ink Printing - Why White Ink?

White ink on colored media (paper, cardstock and envelopes) continues to be a popular design choice, and the results are stunning yet easily achieved.
Why use solid-core colored paper vs a printed solid-color background in a design?
- Using colored cardstock gives printed media a custom look and feel that cannot be replicated by laying a solid ink background on white paper. Printing on colored paper provides your finished pieces with a solid-color background on both sides as well as the edges (no white edges) for a high-quality appearance. This is especially important if you want a truly rich matte background.
- HERE'S THE GREAT NEWS! Printing in all white requires no special file setup! Simply submit your design in black ink and our printing process will make white ink happen! See 🌿Printable PDF-Designing for White Only
- For experienced design professionals, white Ink can also be used as an underlayer when a design incorporates colored ink on colored paper. When printing colored ink directly on colored paper, the color of the paper will alter the appearance of the printed ink colors. Designers using programs like InDesign and Adobe Illustrator can create layers that will tell our printers to lay a white ink base directly under colored ink elements. The outcome is a true ink color that is not altered by the color of the paper. See 🌿Printable PDF- White Ink Advanced Options.
Coordinate your printed piece with premium quality colored envelopes addressed in white to make a lasting first impression!
🌿Designing For White Ink

WHITE INK + CMYK: Level - Advanced
2. White Ink 100% + CMYK – prints white at 100% opaque plus 100% white behind all elements except true black. Printing white ink behind colored ink elements in your design allows printed colors to remain vibrant on dark or colored media (paper).
3. White Ink Varied % + CMYK – allows a varied % of white as standalone elements, as well as behind selected elements. You control where to print white and the % of white.
If you have questions regarding these print file set up instructions, please contact us. See PDF for detailed information.
Note: Advance White Ink options requires the above file design and is not available when using our complimentary variable merge service.
🌿Overprint
OVERPRINT
- If using overprint in your design, check your design in "Overprint Preview" to be sure it will print as expected.
- After opening your document in Adobe Illustrator or InDesign, go to the “View” menu, then select “Overprint Preview”. Turn the option on and off to see if there are any elements that are not going to print as expected.
- Elements that appear in the Overprint Preview will print in the final printed design.
🌿Photo Cards
Different paper finishes offer advantages and considerations; understanding these can help you achieve the desired outcome.
Whether you prioritize vibrant colors, a professional aesthetic, or a classic matte look, there’s a paper type suited to your needs. Below, we explore the most common options to guide your choice.
