Small gatherings and entertaining are the perfect reason to create custom table decor for the holidays! Angenise from @thegracefulpenstudio here, and I’m the gal who loves all things glam and elegant, with a Design on a Dime perspective (extra points if you remember that HGTV television show)! For this project, I knew I wanted to create a dreamy Thanksgiving tablescape that included colors I wouldn’t typically use. Although I only used the word “gather”, this idea will also work for words like “together”, “thankful”, and “grateful” or even die cut names for place cards.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock paper:
- Craft Supplies:
- Paper Trimmer
- Electronic Cutting Machine
- Grateful SVG Cut File
- Calligraphy pen and copper watercolor ink
- Adhesives:
First, I gathered my papers and prepared my file. I designed my word using Procreate on my iPad, then created an SVG on Adobe Illustrator. I’ve found that my Cricut machine tends to cut better when my calligraphy has been vectorized. You can find a link to the file I designed in the supplies above.) Of course, you can use any electronic die cutting machine that you have, but I am using a Cricut.
I uploaded my SVG and sized the design to 4 inches x10.5 inches.

I die-cut my script word using Rhino Lessebo cardstock. Let me tell you, it cut like a dream on the first pass! I was so delighted because every cardstock is not equal when it comes to die cutting. Lessebo Colours cardstock is great for intricate die cuts!

Next, I made a name card to accompany my die cut word. I used my paper trimmer with Copper and Pearl White papers. I trimmed the Copper to 4”x5” and the Pearl White to 3.75”x4.75”, then adhered them with Scor-Tape. I felt like I had traveled in time and was a part of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as I made this elegant table card using copper calligraphy. To tie the color scheme together, I used a dark gray card holder for the place card.

Bringing the tablescape together was so satisfying as I added the die-cut word atop a folded dinner napkin and place card at the top of the place setting. If you love DIY decor, you’ll definitely love this idea! I hope this project inspires your family gathering table decor to be an intimate and inviting celebration in style!
