Last year was the first time we celebrated the Fourth at an Independence Day Parade and I was so impressed by how dressed up and festive everyone was. This year, I wanted to make sure we stepped up our game! You and your kids will love how much fun these shaker wands are to make and to wave!
To start, you will need:
- Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers
- Clear Vinyl
- Ribbon
- Confetti
- Glue Gun
- Glue Pen
- Double-sided Tape
- Paper Straws
- Die Cutter
- Star-shaped Nesting Dies
Use your nesting dies to cut out 5 star outlines with 100# weight cover cardstock. This higher weight will give you the thickness needed when you layer them on top of each other and allow the confetti to move around freely. Also, cut out 2 whole stars in your plastic vinyl which will be used as the windows in star wand. With your glue pen, adhere one of the plastic stars to one of the outlines and do the same with the other plastic star.
Take the remaining 3 outlines and glue them all together. Add the star outline with vinyl on top.
Flip your star over, front side down, and add double-sided tape to the bottom two edges. Stick down the edges of your ribbon pieces. Add whatever fun combination of confetti and glitter you would like into the cavity of the star.
Take your paper straw and flatten one edge. Put double-sided tape over the entire star and place the flat end of the straw on top of the ribbon portion. Grab the other star outline with vinyl and place it on top. Make sure that all of the edges are completely glued down so your confetti does not fall out. Use hot glue to fill in any gaps.
Grab your favorite sunnies, your red, white and blue wear and you are parade ready!
Have you made your own shaker wand? We’d love to see! Be sure to show us on Facebook or Instagram.
Happy Fourth and Happy Crafting!
