Nutcracker Interactive Card

Hi everyone! Natasha of @PoliteCreations, joining you with an interactive card that is sure to put you into the holiday spirit! I have this cute nutcracker die set that features a sliding mouth, and wanted to add some flair by incorporating metallic papers with matte and kraft papers. Let’s get started!

Supplies:

Beginning with the slider dies, I cut the bracket pieces from white cardstock and adhered them to an A2 panel of white. I used the partial rectangle to cut the mouth opening from one A2 panel of Kraft Brown Box and used a second panel of same color to die cut the sliding portion of the mouth.

I also cut all of my other detail pieces, like the Lapis Lazuli clothing and brown hair pieces. I cut some in various colors so I could make more than one card and have options.

Following the instructions for the die set, I then placed the bottom mouth piece into place on the white A2 panel and used wet adhesive along the edges to adhere the A2 panel of Kraft Brown Box that the mouth was cut from. Ensure that you do not adhere anything to the bottom of the mouth, or you will not have a slider or a place for the sentiment to be stamped later on. I then added on the teeth. (Photo on right shows the mouth piece in the "closed" position with top row glued.) The bottom row of teeth goes on the top section of the moving kraft mouth piece.

Next, I assembled the die cut hat and clothes for the nutcracker. I adhered the clothes onto the assembled panel at the bottom, only adding glue to the left, right, and very bottom edges. Again, ensure that you do not glue anything to the sliding mouth.

Now I add the remaining elements onto the face using thin foam. Wet adhesive was used for the mouth. The die comes with six triangles. I adhered them in a stack and then glued the stack to the back of the back of the beard and placed right below the bottom teeth. When the mouth slides, the triangle will stop in the v-shaped groove.

Once everything dried, I stamped my sentiment into the open mouth. Here are two versions of the card I made with slight variations in the colors on the die cut pieces. I think they turned out so cute, and it’s so fun how the mouth opens! The shimmer from the Lapis Lazuli papers makes it all the more festive!
