Waterfall Interactive Scrapbook Element

Junk Journal Waterfall Scrapbook Element

Hi friends, it’s Ivy!

Junk journaling is having such a moment, and if you’re looking to add a fun, interactive element, this waterfall flip card is so easy and is a must try! Documenting your travels or time with the people you love in a junk journal is not only a fun craft activity, but a wonderful keepsake to cherish for many years to come.

Supplies:

Let’s get started by cutting Paper Bag cardstock to 2.75 x 12 inches, and then cutting another strip to 0.75 x 6.75 inches. Cut Lagoon, Moss, Mid Green, and Marrs Green cardstock to 2.5 x 2.75 inches.

Next, create 5 score lines on the 12 x 2.75-inch strip, starting at 3 inches, then every half inch to create 4 sections. Each one of these sections will hold one of the 4 rectangles of colored paper.

Fold along all score lines to crease them, then fold the last score line over to create the base. Apply adhesive between the score lines and place the smaller cardstock pieces in between each section, starting with the bottom one.

Once your rectangles are attached, take your .75-inch strip and center it around the bottom of the flap under the rectangles. Glue this strip to the top section ONLY. Do not put glue on the side flaps.

Wrap the side straps of strip around the longer folded piece in the back, then secure it by adding adhesive to the back of the strip. This will be the portion that attaches to your junk journal. Use a strong adhesive here, but be sure to only glue down the backs of the flaps to the junk journal. If you put glue anywhere else, your waterfall will not slide. (I used my tape runner here, but I should have used Scor-Tape. It would have been stronger!)

You can trim the longer section in the back to create a pull tab that is any shape/size you’d like to better fit your journal. I trimmed mine a bit shorter, then cut off the corners to make it look like a tag shape.

Now the fun part... embellishing! Add a decorative pull tab to your bottom, then decorate each of the mini pages.

That’s it! Easy peasy!

Now that you know the basic mechanics of a waterfall scrapbook element, you can create them in any size to fit the kind of book you are creating. You can even add mini waterfall elements to greeting cards to create pop-ups!
