Hearts Aflutter Scrapbook Layout

Hello everyone! Love is in the air. With Valentine’s Day just around the corner it is the season to document your love story. I chose to use a simple shape to create a special layout about me and my husband. I don’t document us enough in my scrapbooks but this time of year is a great time to pull out those photos and get them scrapped.

Supplies needed:

  • Scissors, punch, or die cutting machine
  • Hot glue or liquid glue
  • Adhesive foam

Cardstock Warehouse Cardstock Papers:

  • Pop-Tone Sweet Tooth White 100# cardstock
  • Stardream Jupiter 105# cardstock
  • Stardream Mars 105# cardstock

Optional:

  • Alphabet stickers
  • Die cuts or other embellishments
  • Embroidery floss and needle

To start, I used my Silhouette Portrait to cut out a ton of hearts on a sheet of Jupiter and Mars Stardream Metallic cardstock. These are amazing papers that have a beautiful shimmer to them, giving them added depth of color. They are also amazingly thick allowing them to cut very well. These shapes could easily be hand-cut or punched out of the paper if you don’t have a cutting machine.

Next, I hand drew a large heart onto a piece of 12x12 Sweet Tooth cardstock and cut it out. I traced around this heart onto a clean sheet of the same paper. Then I used my hot glue gun to adhere the Jupiter and Mars hearts to the background, being careful not to place them completely in the heart I traced. I laid them in a wonky fashion to make them look like they were dropped onto the paper. Some of them overlap others to create a more 3D effect. I also alternated colors and sizes.

Then, I used white embroidery floss to stitch around my cut out Sweet Tooth heart. This is a fun technique that adds a different texture but doesn’t take away
from the overall layout because of the tone-on-tone effect. Once the stitching was finished, I used some craft adhesive foam to adhere the heart to my page. The adhesive foam is necessary because of the layered hearts and the stitching. It allows the heart to lay flat and not curl up on the edges.

Once the main element of the page was complete all I had left to do was to add my photo and embellishments. I chose to use a piece of the scrap Jupiter paper to mat my photo on. Then I used some epoxy stickers from Crate Paper Hello Love for the title and some of the hearts. Finally, I added some heart stickers and the phrase sticker from We R Memory Keepers Crush sticker sheet.
