The Nutcracker Ballet is a cherished holiday tradition. Growing up, I always enjoyed reading the classic story and, of course, watching the beautiful ballet. These whimsical Nutcracker-inspired toppers are perfect for a holiday tea party or Christmas brunch. Follow along to learn how to make these festive toppers, using a variety of Cardstock Warehouse papers.
Supplies:
- Cardstock Warehouse cardstock paper:
- Bearly Art Liquid Precision Glue
- Hot Glue
- Wooden toothpicks or food picks
- Ink Pen (Optional)
- Cricut Cutting Machine
Start by cutting all the topper pieces from the Cricut project file provided. All the images used are available through Cricut Access. I left many of the small topper pieces on my cutting mat so that none were lost.

The first topper to create is the ballerina ornament. Using liquid glue, attach the top piece of the ornament, followed by the gracefully posed ballerina. The shimmery Stardream Rose Quartz shade just screams “ballerina”.

Next, onto the scalloped ‘Clara’ inspired topper. I loved this sweet image of Clara, dancing with her beloved nutcracker. With liquid glue, attach the dancer and bow images to the front of the scalloped background.
The next topper to create is the classic, playful rocking horse. Attach the body of the horse onto the Nubuck Brown background. The final touch is the Lockwood Green saddle.

The next topper is probably my personal favorite – the mouse King. I started by gluing the larger pieces on the black background piece, including the head and jacket. Once those were complete, I added the tiny Stardream Gold and Candy Pink details. There are several small pieces, but he turns out so cute. For an added touch, I hand-drew some whiskers using a fine-point ink pen.

Last, but not least, is the nutcracker himself! I began at the top of his hat, placing each piece carefully with liquid glue on top of the black background. Slowly, the nutcracker comes to life with each tiny piece of paper.

With all the topper pieces complete, it’s time to add the wooden sticks. Using a hot glue gun, attach the wooden sticks to the back of each topper with a thin line of hot glue.

These Nutcracker-inspired toppers are finished and ready to spread holiday joy! Place them in a simple store-bought cake to instantly elevate your dessert table.

These files could also be repurposed as gift tags, ornaments, strung as a garland, etc.
