Watermelon Basket Cupcake Toppers and Holders

Watermelon Basket Cupcake Holders

How stinkin' cute are these watermelon cupcake toppers & picnic basket cupcake holders?! These toppers and holders would be such a cute extra added touch to any watermelon or picnic themed party or get together. Lessebo Colours papers are perfect for this project because they die cut beautifully in electronic machines.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock Warehouse Papers
    • Lessebo Colours 83lb: Pitch Black, White, Shitake, Kelly Green, and Bubblegum
  • Adhesives
    • Bearly Art® Glue
    • Hot Glue
    • Foam Dots
  • Small brads
  • Food pick or straw for topper
  • Cutting machine
  • Cutting files:

I started by adding all my files to my Cricut and formatting them to the sizes I need. I found the watermelon and ant on Cricut Design Space, and the berry basket on Creative Fabrica. You can search the software you have available with your machine for comparable images. My finished basket will be about 3 inches wide at the base. Once your files are ready, cut all your pieces out using the colors listed above.

Creating the watermelon slice toppers is easy! Simply layer together the pieces one at a time with liquid glue. The green goes on the bottom, then the white, then the black, then the pink. I am using Bearly Arts glue in a small squeeze botle.  When you are finished with the watermelon, hot glue it to a straw or food pick. Now your cupcake toppers are done! You could also switch out the watermelon for any other fruit you like.

Now it's time to put the basket together. Take your main piece and fold the sides up. I used Shitake paper for the basket because it is a lovely shade of brown. Your cupcakes will look so cute nestled in this little basket!

Take one of the edge strips (with the flat ends) and fold it on the score lines, then line up the holes on the strip and glue it to the basket. Make sure the smaller bend side of the strip is on the right side. Repeat this step with the other strip.

Glue the shorter tab on the other side of the basket and repeat this step with the other short tab on the other side. Then, glue the longer flap down. This flap will go over the smaller flap and hide it. Now the base of your basket is done.

Let's make some handles! The handle pieces are the ones with the rounded ends. Stack both handle pieces together and line up the hole with the hole on the basket. Put a small brad through the hole (both handles and the basket) and fasten it. This will allow your handles to swivel.

Using a pop dot, I added a little cute ant to the front of the basket, because what summer picnic is complete without adorable little ants?
